The History Behind Greenwell
Matt Shotwell became involved in the cannabis business after his sister asked him for medical marijuana (MMJ) from California; her doctor in Virginia wouldn’t give her anything other than prescriptions for highly addictive and potentially toxic pharmaceuticals. From there, his career began as a world-renowned medical cannabis activist and ganjapreneur.
Matt began his medical marijuana dispensary business delivering medicine to patients in Solano County and the surrounding area. He then opened his first brick and mortar dispensary, named Greenwell Collective, in a 400 square foot space on Georgia Street in the long struggling city of Vallejo, California. Within a year, Greenwell had outgrown its original storefront and moved into a 4,000 square foot space.
Greenwell became one the few profitable medical marijuana dispensary businesses in the mostly vacant city center, with more than 9,000 patients and daily foot traffic averaging more than 200 people. Unfortunately, Greenwell was raided in 2012 by the city as retaliation for his successful campaign to legitimize the city’s cannabis industry, which would bring much needed revenue to the bankrupt municipality through taxation.
Meanwhile, Mr. Shotwell and his partners were documenting his business growth, as well as the antics that go along with running a medical marijuana dispensary. This led to worldwide cannabis stardom in the form of Discovery Network’s reality show “Weed Country”, which drew 1.1 million viewers weekly. The show was named to Hollywood Reporter’s Top 25 heat list and is in almost constant rerun status.
Dr. Sanja Gupta, inspired by “Weed Country’s” storyline, did his own special report on medical marijuana. At the time, Dr. Gupta focused on treating a child suffering from epilepsy with high CBD cannabis. During the course of his study, he went from an anti-cannabis crusader to stating “We have been duped”. Matt considers his role in this awakening one of his proudest accomplishments.
Matt has now produced a new cannabis show called “Breaking Bud” with his rapidly growing, cutting edge production company BS Entertainment. He is in demand worldwide as a cannabis spokesperson and consultant, always traveling in style in world-renowned Cannabus.
When Matt learned that both his beloved father and sister were diagnosed with cancer (his father with kidney cancer and his sister with Hodgkin’s Disease Lymphoma), he began to research nutritional information with the hope of finding something to help manage the debilitating side effects of chemotherapy.
Discussions with experts as well as his personal research led him to one conclusion: growing and juicing your own organic foods could produce miraculous results in a variety of illnesses. In addition, the nutrition from these homegrown foods would resupply the necessary nutrients being depleted from chemo and associated drugs.
Matt’s research also taught him that plants only grow as good as the water you hydrate them with. This is the idea behind his launching a line of custom designed and affordable water filtration products, which were developed to address the substandard quality of water that most people have coming out of their tap.
